The 6th World Vovinam Championship in 2019 was held at the Olympic Complex Indoor Stadium in the capital city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from December 18 to 22, 2019. The tournament attracted 365 athletes from 24 countries and territories, including: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Egypt, France, Japan, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Laos, Libya, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan (China), Thailand, and Vietnam.
The athletes competed for 44 sets of medals, comprising 26 performance (technical) events and 18 combat weight categories (11 for men and 7 for women). The countries with the most participating athletes included Cambodia, Vietnam, Algeria, Indonesia, and France.
The high technical level demonstrated by many young athletes from countries and territories participating in the championship for the first time brought new vitality to the global Vovinam movement in the current period.
As a result, the Vietnamese team secured the overall championship title at this world tournament with 17 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal. The host team, Cambodia, showed thorough preparation leading up to the event by building a young generation of athletes. As a result, the Cambodian fighters earned second place in the overall rankings with 9 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and 12 bronze medals. Algeria ranked third with 9 gold medals, 8 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals.
