The 2nd WVVF World Vovinam Championship took place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from July 27 to July 31, 2011.

This championship attracted 86 officials and 231 athletes from 22 countries and territories (including Algeria, Morocco, Cambodia, Iran, Laos, Indonesia, India, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Russia, Belarus, Denmark…), among them countries with strong Vovinam movements and highly skilled martial artists such as France, Italy, Romania, Russia, and Iran.

Athletes competed for 40 sets of medals across two main categories:

  • 18 sparring events (11 men’s weight classes from 51kg to over 90kg; 7 women’s weight classes from 45kg to over 65kg)
  • 22 performance events (13 for men, 6 for women, and 3 mixed-gender events)

The 2011 2nd World Vovinam Championship was not only an exciting and competitive tournament, but also a festival for Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo practitioners from around the world to return to their martial arts homeland to exchange, learn, and share experiences in training and competition.

With 20 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals, the Vietnam Vovinam team successfully defended its overall championship title. Iran came in second with 5 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals, while France finished third with 4 gold, 3 silver, and 11 bronze medals.
