The 1st World Vovinam Championship in 2009 was held at the Military Zone 7 Gymnasium, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from July 26 to 31, 2009.
This inaugural tournament welcomed the participation of 170 referees, coaches, and athletes from 14 countries and territories around the world. These included nations with strong Vovinam movements such as France, Italy, and India, as well as other countries like Australia, Germany, Russia, Belarus, Cambodia, Iran, Thailand, Ukraine, Poland, Romania, and the host country, Vietnam.
After two days of competition, the championship concluded on the evening of July 29. The host team, Vietnam, dominated the tournament and claimed the overall championship title with 21 gold medals out of a total of 28 events. France ranked second with 3 gold medals, followed by Russia in third place with 2 gold medals.
The event was primarily sponsored by SAIGON INVEST GROUP and received media support from the VTC9 Let’s Viet television channel.
